frequently asked questions
What is counselling?
- Guidance offered to help a person resolve social or personal problems;
- The act of exchanging opinions and ideas.
- A detailed plan or explanation to guide you in setting standards or determining a course of action.
What does that really mean?
- We have a conversation about what is going on in your life, and through active discussion, we find a way to help you deal with your situation.
What counselling doesn't do:
- We do not prescribe or administer medications. A cup of coffee or tea to help you relax is as far as we go.
- We don't make you fill out multiple questionnaires or administer Rorschach or Meyers-Briggs tests to pigeon hole you into a specific type of disorder or personality type.
- We do not share your information. Conversations are not recorded, and we do not disclose information to your employer, spouse or friends.
- We don't judge you.
What areas do you specialize in?
- Family therapy
- Grief
- Anxiety disorder
- Trauma
- Children's therapy
- Learning disabilities
- Family financial management
- Addiction recovery
- Marriage restoration
- Relationships
- Spiritual coaching
Will this work for me?
- It should. Most people are pleasantly surprised at how effective counselling is. The best way to find out for sure is to set up an appointment so that we can meet. The hour we spend together will give us the opportunity to learn about each other, to become comfortable with each other and to see if we can establish a connection that will allow you to be comfortable talking about whatever is troubling you.
Please note that there is no fee for the initial one hour meeting.
How many sessions will I need?
- After our initial meeting, we should be able to give you an idea of how many sessions may be needed.
How much will this cost?
- The initial one hour meeting is at no charge to you. At that time, we can give you an estimate on how many sessions you might need.
- If you work for an employer that offers health benefits, confidential counselling sessions might be covered by your benefits provider through an Employee Assistance Program.
- The normal non-insured rate is $110 per hour. Discounts may be available depending on your circumstances.
